Is SEO The Right Job For You?

Trying economic times and looming uncertainty leave many people feeling lost. It can be difficult to try to step forward into a new career path after having invested so much of yourself, time, and energy into the former. Don’t drag your heels too much, because the field of Search Engine Optimization is ripe with opportunities. Consider this…

A business that does not have a website in today’s economy might as well not even be in business. A website is even more important to a business than having business cards, an item that has long been considered mandatory. Any business that wants to thrive is going to need to get found when people search for their product or service. With millions of websites available and more cropping up all the time, getting found is one of the biggest challenges that any business faces.

The importance isn’t just for large businesses though. Small, local business can compete just as hard with an effective SEO campaign. Several studies have shown that over 70% of shoppers will look for information on a business or product online before making a purchase from a brick and mortar storefront. That kind of dynamic creates a mandatory environment for a business that wants to be successful to back their Internet presence with SEO.

It is estimated that there is approximately 270,000,000 million registered domains. Most would conclude that those businesses and interests did not take the time and effort to put up a web page to not be found. An owner may not be familiar with how important an SEO campaign is to their presence. How many businesses are out there waiting for an SEO professional to show them the value that a campaign can add to their web presence?

Make no mistake, we are not suggesting that it will be a completely smooth ride to success. Nothing is ever that simple and SEO is very competitive. Success in SEO requires work just the same as any other profession. However, one must consider their work environment. Search Engine Optimization boils down to the concept of enabling businesses and interests to succeed on the Internet. The SEO professional is becoming an integral part of the capitalist experience. Having someone pay you to help them make money is always a great idea for a profession. That is a skill that is never going to be lacking opportunities backed with the appropriate effort.

Consider the employee that spends 10 years working in a factory making plastic parts with an injection mold. What is going to happen to that employee when technology develops to the point that their duties can be automated? They will be down-sized and left trying to find another job. That employee has 10 years of experience operating an injection mold, but that skill is longer very relevant since automation can do it more efficiently. Who knows how long it will take, or if, that person will find a similar job to step into?

Now consider the path of an SEO professional. SEO is a continuously evolving field in a work arena that is interconnected across the world. You will not spend 10 years doing the same thing because the environment is changing on a regular basis. Adapting and learning is part of your job description. Unlike that factory worker, the training and knowledge you build as an SEO professional will be relevant even if that particular opportunity should happen to fall through.

SEO is a fundamental part of a successful business’s Internet presence. All businesses want to succeed. There could not be a better career opportunity than that of the SEO professional.
