SEO Plugins for WordPress – How to Make your Site Better and Build its Page Ranking

One of the aggravating things for people who are just starting out on the web (and even those who may have been there awhile) is getting the people you know are interested in the subject you write about or the business you perform. The problem is getting those people to see your site in the first place.

This is where SEO comes in; SEO is search engine optimization which sounds a lot more intimidating than it is. All SEO means is that you recognize how the search engines build page rankings, and you want to make sure your site is legitimately counted and placed. To that end, there are certain sets of practices which have been discussed in other articles that will help the search engines recognize you and place you towards the top of the results.

The problem for a lot of people is that doing these things in itself involves doing a lot of behind the scenes manipulations of your website. This is usually quite easy once you learn how to do it; hosting and server companies like Macquarie Telecom Group Limited are always ready to lend a hand in understanding some of these issues as well, but there are other tools to check and see how your page is doing, not to humans, but to the search engine protocols that they use to place you in the search.

There are some great plugins that take on this task. Plugins can help a less experienced webmaster make sure he is doing all the right things. Many plugins make manipulating and changing your page a lot easier. It is not good to rely on too many of them, but the SEO plugins are very useful applications, even for more experienced webmasters who simply want a quick check of the work they have done.

This is especially true when working with a team of developers; the webmaster can look at the site as a whole, find the trouble or weak spots and reassign these areas back to the proper personnel with specific instructions on how to fix the invalid or weak piece of the website.

WordPress SEO by Yoast is one of the best of the SEO plugins that you can get, bar none. WP SEO is very thorough. It was written Jost de Valk, a WordPress SEO consultant and WordPress developer, and it takes an all-encompassing picture of your website and picks out trouble spots.

WordPress SEO by Yoast looks at everything on your site, from breadcrumbs to RSS optimization, XML sitemaps, page analysis and more. The program will spot any trouble areas, where you may be getting outside the best practices put forward by the search engine companies.

Headspace 2 is another excellent plugin. With this you can write meta titles and descriptions easily, taking care of category issues as well as tag and custom taxonomy archives, and good analytic tools.

All-in-One SEO pack is probably the easiest for people who are less tech savvy to use, but it is still a great program; the more advanced you are, the more you can tweak the program to fit into your style.

No matter what you do, you need to get Google Site Verification as well. You can build your page ranking with just a little effort; look around, and choose one of these tools to help you get to the top of the page.

What are the Post Fields on WordPress?

When one first starts to use WordPress themes, he or she needs to learn about the post fields that are on their control panel. The section of your site that you will use to post your content is one of the most vital aspects of the site, and it is a good idea to have at least a cursory understanding of the different fields that are there. Most of them are self-explanatory, while others are a bit more obtuse and could use a bit of a description. Here, we’ll look at all of the different post field sections and learn a bit about them:

The Title

This is one of the easy ones. The title is simply the title of your post and you can use any words that you want. However, it’s a good idea to make sure that you are using different titles, as having more than one post with the same title is confusing. You should use a keyword or keyword phrase in this section, though.

The Post Editing Area

Here is where you will enter your text, along with any links and other information that you want to display on your site. You can use either Visual or HTML for the composition.

Preview

The preview button is where you can view your post before you publish it. This can help you see if there are any issues with the formatting of the content. It might also be easier to spot errors here.

The Publish Box

In this section, you will see the state of your post. It will show as published, pending, review, or draft. These different states are easy to understand.

In this section, after saving your post, you will see the permalink. This shows the URL for the post. The URL of the post comes from your title. Even if you have dashes or commas in your title, you do not have to worry. WordPress is able to clean up the title for the purposes of a URL.

Save and Publish

These areas will let you save a draft of your post and to publish your post to the web respectively.

Excerpt

You can choose to display only an excerpt of your content on your front page rather than the entire post. If you post a substantial amount of content regularly, this might be a good option, as it will take up less space on the front page and allow more of your posts and headlines to appear. The reader will be able to click on the excerpt to read more.

Category

You will be able to create a number of different categories for your blog, and this section lets you assign your post to different categories that you set up. This means that readers who are searching through a certain category, such as “reptile care” will be able to find all of your posts under that subject.

Post Author

If you have more than one user who contributes to your blog, this box is where you will find each of the writers’ names. You can choose the appropriate name of the writer to go along with his or her post. For those who are doing solo blogs, this is not going to be an important feature.

Discussion

Here, you will be able to determine if you want to allow comments on the post or not. If you want to interact with your readers, it is wise to allow comments on your posts. You can allow comments, trackbacks, and pings.

These are some of the most important elements of the post area on your WordPress blog. Knowing what the different sections mean can help you take better care of your site.

3 of the Most Excellent SEO Tools for Bloggers

Blogging still rules as a premier method for publishing website content. With the sheer numbers of pages and sites online now, the need to practice up-to-date and competitive SEO on your blog is critical. It is vital for your SEO tactics to survive the seemingly constant changes in how search engines rank content. What then are 3 of the best SEO tools for bloggers?

1) Myblogguest.com

Guest posting is a well-established method for acquiring incoming links, which are elusive but powerful elements of SEO. Google loves naturally-earned backlinks. But it is time-consuming finding suitable blogs with owners who will allow you to post, as well as finding good quality authors to post on your own site.

Enter Myblogguest, a free site that connects blog owners and authors for guest posting. After joining, you can upload articles to their Articles Gallery without waiting for requests. Once you have added an article to the database, thousands of blog owners will be able to see it and ask your permission to post it on their sites. In turn, you too can search the Articles Gallery for content to add to your own blog.

To further support guest posting, Myblogguest has two helpful Forums, “Looking For A Blog,” and “Looking For A Guest Author.” Both list literally thousands of requests and offers for you to browse

As a guest poster, you earn a coveted natural backlink that Google and all the search engines will respect. It’s a win win situation for both blog owners and authors, and for you, an excellent SEO tool.

2) KeywordLuv and CommentLuv Plugins

These two WordPress plugins are powerful SEO tools because they encourage and reward commentators on your blog. Commenting establishes your site’s credibility, boosts your visibility, creates relationships and builds links. What more could you want?

The free versions are downloaded through wordpress.org and most users find them more than sufficient. Be sure your blog is dofollow to enable the plugins to provide backlinks. Premium versions are rather costly, but have quality reputations. For our purposes, the free versions are discussed.

KeywordLuv

Reward your commentators by allowing them to put their name and chosen keyword in an anchor text link at the end of their comment. The format, which is demonstrated in the comment box, is to enter into the name field yourname@yourkeywords.

For example, Ellen@theCookbookCompany, appears as “Ellen from the CookbookCompany,” where CookbookCompany is the backlink. Using Keyword luv will substantially increase your numbers of comments, lending credibility to your posts and attracting search engine attention.

CommentLuv

When a reader leaves a comment, Comment Luv automatically adds a link at the end to their last blog post. If they have registered their site at comluv.com, they will get to choose from 10 different posts. For their friendly support of your blog, they are rewarded with a natural backlink. Like with KeywordLuv, commenting is encouraged, with its accompanying benefits.

3) Google Webmaster Tools

You can access this suite of powerful SEO tools by typing “Google webmaster tools” into your search bar, then logging in using your Google account information. These tools will provide you with data you can’t get anywhere else. They show you how Google sees your website.

The first thing you need to do is verify site ownership. Click on the link for adding a site, and follow the easy instructions. Once verified, you can begin analyzing your site as seen through Google’s eyes. In preferences, set your email forwarding to send you notifications. Notices about problems like crawling issues and malware alerts will come straight to your mailbox.

The main tool categories are Configuration, Health, Traffic, Optimization and Labs. Within these categories are SEO tools to help you optimize your site to meet Google’s requirements for ranking. For example, under Traffic, you can see how many links are incoming, and to which pages, impressions per day, and number of clicks on links.

The category Optimization includes HTML Improvements, Keywords Content and others. Keywords Content is particularly helpful because it shows the top 20 keywords listed in order of significance, from which you can determine the focus and cohesiveness of your entire site.

Google maintains a Webmasters channel on YouTube with many easy-to-follow videos to help you improve your SEO. You can check out their channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp?feature=watch

On the whole, Myblogguest.com, the Luv WordPress plugins, and Google Webmaster tools are a great start for any new blogger. All of them are current and have stayed relevant through the recent Google algorithm updates. And even better, they are free.

After installing WordPress it automatically generates a default administrator username, using such a username will only make it easier for hackers to guess your username as well password. 5 Killer Word Press Plugins for Web Masters

Word Press is a quickly growing platform that has made web design and web management incredibly easy. Even people with virtually zero coding experience can set up a Word Press site and start promoting a business of their blogging articles. One of the best things about Word Press is the plugin system. There is virtually a plugin for almost anything you would want to do, and this makes it a piece of cake for those without coding experience. In this article we are going to go over 5 of my favorite Word Press plugins for better usability and search engine optimization.

All-In-One-SEO

All in One SEO pack

This is one of my favorite starting plugins, and there is a good chance you might have heard of it before. It allows web masters to easily optimize their website for search engines. This includes setting Meta titles and descriptions for each individual page with one easy to follow format. You can also set page extensions with this plugin such as website.com/postname /, date/postname, /date/category and so on. I usually recommend going with the basic /postname, and /pagename for the best SEO results.

Social Metrics

Social Metrics WordPress Plugin

This plugin is really awesome and I was fortunate enough to recently discover it. It allows you to monitor your social shares on popular sites in your Word Press dashboard. This includes Tweets, Face Book shares, Digg Shares, Stumble Upon, Linkedin and more. What I like about Social Metrics the most is that it makes it so easy to find which pages and posts on your website are the most popular. This can provide insight into future posts and keywords to target.

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms hands down, without a doubt in-my-mind, is the best form plugin for Word Press. You can customize virtually EVERYTHING, from the email messages, the pages the user redirects to when finishing the form, the background and styles, and much, much more. You can also see the amount of form fill outs and other statistics on the back end of the plugin. However, Gravity Forms isn’t a free plugin but in my opinion it is definitely worth it. The basic edition is roughly $40 dollars and comes with a year of support, which I might add is awesome.

Soliloquy Slider

Soliloquy Slider

Soliloquy Slider is an image slider that you can display on any page with a custom short code. It has a very nice caption overlay as well as features for choosing slider timing size. What really sets this plugin apart from other sliders is the fact that it is a responsive slider. This means it will work on your responsive layouts and automatically readjust the screen size on mobile phones or tablet PC’s. Most sliders are not responsive and look terrible on mobile or tablet devices.

Google Maps Via Store Locator Plus

Store Locator

This plugin is the maps plugin you’ve always dreamed of. It’s best for websites that represent companies that have multiple physical locations. It’s easy to add new locations to the map and the map shows a display of the entire country and pin points on each location. You can even customize the pin points to be favicon style markers that represent your brand. Other features include searching by zip code and the ability to create individual pages for each location.

Round up

Many of these plugins have helped me immensely on my websites and my client websites. If you know any great Word Press plugins make sure to leave a comment and let me know.

3 Best WordPress Plugins for Comments

As most people know, comments are an absolutely critical aspect of any functioning blog. It not only means you have readers, but readers that care enough and are engaged enough with your content to respond back.

Blogs that have an extremely active user base and get hundreds of comments on every page are usually some of the most popular blogs on earth, but that fame doesn’t always come easy.

Such blogs usually require constant moderation for forums and commenting, and have built up a system of social media connection with users over many years.

There are 3 very important steps you need to take to ensure your site is getting the most out of its comment section.

The first and most important is to stop spam; the second is to incentivize users to comment; and the third is to connect with users beyond your blog.

The following three plugins will help you accomplish those tasks.

1. Akismet

Askimet

The number one plugin for WordPress several years running, Akismet is still the best way to protect your blog from spam.

Any good blog should put stopping spam as their number one priority right from the get-go. Askimet’s filter works by storing a database of all spam links posted on the WordPress network, and then blocking those same patterns from repeating in the future.

If Akismet detects that a comment is definitely spam, it blocks it completely. If it thinks a comment might be spam, it holds the comment back for you to inspect yourself. If it is spam, you can report it and that type of comment will be blocked in the future.

You can also modify Akismet’s settings to hold ALL comments back for moderation, or block only certain criteria when users are posting (such as the words “Gucci Purse”).

2. CommentLuv

CommentLuv

CommentLuv is a fantastic plugin that not only incentivizes users to comment, but also to leave as insightful and good natured comment as possible. It does this by allowing the users blog or recent posts to appear in their comment, even if the link system on the blog is “nofollow”

Users who post the best comments are much more likely to get other users, or even the blog owner, interested in their own site and subsequently click on the links. They don’t get a trackback bonus, but they do get extra traffic back to their blog.

Striking a balance between stopping spam and incentivizing users to comment is key. The above two plugins in tandem do that splendidly.

3. TwitterLink Comments

TwitterLink Comments

The third and final key to our comment plugin combo is to install the plugin Twitterlink Comments. This handy little plugin allows users to automatically add a link to their twitter profile in every comment they make.

This makes it much easier for savvy blog owners to connect with readers immediately outside of the blogosphere.

Doing so not only virtually ensures the commenter will be a “repeat customer” (visits your blog more than once), but does the invaluable job of “linking” your otherwise middle of nowhere blog into one of the biggest social networks on earth.

The same thing can be done if you chose to forego standard WordPress comments altogether, and instead install Facebook commenting. Or, simply add other types of Facebook integration such as a large “friend me” button and lots of “like” icons.

So, if your following along, the steps to mastering the comment kingdom on WordPress go something like this:

First: Stop comment spam. You don’t want to be a backlink pin-cushion or an advertising venue, especially if your blog is very popular. If the standard Akismet doesn’t cut it, try plugins like “ReCaptcha” or “Simple Trackback Validation”.

Second: Incentivize users to comment. You want to stop spam, but you still want genuine comments. They are critical to your blogs success. The best way to do this is offering some free recognition to bloggers who comment on your site. CommentLuv does this very well, and likewise is one of the best WordPress Plugins.

Third: Connect with users beyond the blog. If a user cares about your content enough to comment on your blog, you probably have a lot in common. Connecting through Twitter not only expands the reaches of your blog to potentially thousands of more people; increasing your chances of earning a paycheck for your blog, but is also a great way to connect with people who would otherwise remain total strangers. TwitterLink comments is the best plugin we have found to integrate twitter accounts into your comments.

That just about wraps it up for this post, be sure to install these plugins and leave a nice comment in the comment section :)

Cheers!

WordPress Plugins To Increase Adsense Revenue

Google Adsense is the latest fuss to the internet marketing industry. In addition, it is a boon to the publishers to earn money from their website through advertisements. Adsense is an ad network that enables users to earn a decent commission when any one clicks the advertisement posted. Despite the various attributes and a wide range of ad networking referrals, Adsense continues to top the list for the very fact that it’s simple, easy to use, and also helps in the generation of a wide range of leads and profits.
