A lot of people can make a website, but how do you make a site that people want to visit? How do you capture their attention and make them what to scroll down the page, check out what you have to offer within a few short seconds? While this may sound like a tricky task, there are actually a large number of things that you can do in order to get attention and keep people coming back and sticking around for the long term. Today we are going to focus on a few of our personal favorite (and simple!) ways that you can get the job done.
Give What They Expect and Much More
First of all, you want to make sure that simply by looking at the name of your website that people can get a good feel for what they can expect from you. If you sell cat toys, then somehow make your name state that. You also want the name to be something unique and inviting which is a bit tricky but give it time and make sure you are content with your final decision.
Find fun ways that you can change things up. This may mean introducing a new product or service that may not directly relate to your site but that fits within the same niche. This way, people are going to be pleasantly surprised when they stop by to find that they can get much more than they thought was possible. While this may be tough in the beginning, because you are new to the niche; give it time and you are bound to come up with some pretty neat ideas along the way.
Be Better Than the Competition
One great way to find inspiration is to look to the competition. Check out their websites. Notice right away what things draw you in and look for things that you think could be better. By doing so, you are doing the same thing that people do whenever they stop by your site and it may just give you some pretty cool ideas as to how you can get the best out of your site and offer something that other people have been lacking. Customers are going to notice and it’s going to gain their respect.
Have New Content on a Regular Basis
Nothing is worse than stopping by a website and realizing that not a single thing has changed since you last left. There are zero new posts in the forum, there are never any sales or exciting events; everything is the same. Why would someone ever want to come back if that’s what they see time and time again? This is why the whole life of your site is so important. You want to show people that the business is alive and well and give them a reason to want to come back. Whether you are teaching them something new or giving them something new, it all means the same; change is good.
