Your website should send a professional message to your customers. Go beyond the image though. You should become the most helpful and customer friendly website that every existed. Recent changes in SEO land has made what is on your website more important than ever. Give tips and tricks for using your product. Put installation guides and DIY techniques out for the world to see. The more information you can pack into your website the better it will look in the eyes of the search engines.

If You Write it, You Should Link it

Incoming links are still primary way that search engines determine relevancy of a page. Networking with other small companies and linking to and from complementary sites will quickly snowball into a great link structure. You should not go out and do the spam links that will get your website into trouble. Meet other business owners, talk to them and do a little link swapping. Most small business owners that I know are terrified of SEO. They do not understand it and really do not want to. Become the SEO ambassador. Help other small business owners to understand that SEO is not a demon to be afraid of but a tool in the marketing arsenal.

Personally, I hate social media marketing but it works. If you can get your customers to “friend” you online, they can become your marketing department. The massive number of users that make up the Facebook community will learn about your company via an intricate web of personal connections that connect most of the planet together. Your messages can travel through this network and reach more people than a million dollar Super Bowl commercial. The effort that you put into your social media marketing will pay you back with interest.

    However, once it’s done, it requires a very little amount of maitence and that’s what I really love…

    It’s set up and forget, that’s why it requires a little bit of work.
