Use the Force in your SEO campaign?? Read below to begin a journey through the Star Wars films to explore how they relate to SEO perfectly.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….. a line that touches the heart of any Star Wars fan. It’s something that resonates and takes you back to the moment that you first saw the stunning Princess Leia hit the screens, and we saw good versus evil as the Empire and the Jedis fought for control of the galaxy.

You may be wondering what this has got to do with SEO. Well, as the recent Penguin update has been announced from Google, it has spurred thoughts that using the force can help with your SEO campaign (of course in a metaphorical way!) Read below to begin a journey through the Star Wars films to explore how they relate to SEO perfectly. George Lucas really was ahead of his time!

The Phantom Menace

The first of the Star Wars films (not in the way they were released but chronologically!) sees Padmé Amidala being protected and escorted from planet to planet in the hope of finding an end to the dispute of the galaxy. The title of this film is a much-discussed topic amongst fans; it is believed that the reasoning behind it is that nobody really knows who the enemy is, as there is a mystery behind the dark side.

This mystery is similar with negative SEO. Bad SEO is a dark topic, but unfortunately something that happens and can have hugely detrimental effects to any campaign that is affected. Business competitors target websites and carry out underhand techniques to get them to drop positions, all without you knowing who your enemy is.

Attack of the Clones

One of the most important areas of any website in terms of SEO is content. It’s something that will see your site succeed in the rankings, as Google puts a priority on fresh and unique content. It’s a vital part of any campaign and duplicate content is something that will see you drop down the page and get penalised. And unlike the Star Wars plot where Jango Fett leads his army of clones in an attempt to assassinate Padme, cloning will get you nowhere in SEO.

Return of the Jedi

The basis of this film is the battle between good and evil. It’s a question of whether Darth Vadar and the dark side can overcome the rebellion to take over the universe, with much battling and fighting in between. It takes a look at which side of the force will win, good or evil.

This is just the same in SEO with the much talked about black and white hat techniques that are used by some. Many people used underhanded methods and have found ways to sneak around Google’s algorithm changes, which meant they were breaking guidelines. Whilst these sites succeeded in the short term, sooner or later Google would pick up on the method and you would be penalised with de-indexing. The giants that are Google noticed this increase and so made changes in their algorithm to ensure that “Black-hatters” got what they deserve.

Although we’ve only touched the base of the Star Wars films, as anybody who hasn’t been living in a cave for 35 years will know there are 6 pretty amazing ones. It’s clear to see that George Lucas isn’t just a master in creating films, but his knowledge stretches to SEO and this blog has explored how the films aren’t too dissimilar to many common things found in a successful campaign.

The great Yoda once said “The force is strong with this one”. By utilising the right SEO techniques this is exactly what they will say about your business when it is sat at the top of page one on Google!
