Google is one of the best search engine, and email services provider on the internet. The ultimate goal of Google, by bringing innovation and upgrades is to increase the overall user experience. The more good the user’s experience, the more will be the use of Google’s services.

The social media platform of Google, which is Google+, has created a lot of buzz in SEO circles. Firstly, the buzz was about its integration with search engine results, which will have impact on PPC management of an ad campaign. Moreover, the second buzz is about its being integrated with Gmail.

When Google+ was to be integrated with Gmail, Mark Striebeck, the Gmail, engineering manager, conducted a survey by posing a few question regarding the integration of Gmail with Google+. A detail of the responses received and the questions asked is as under:

Questions Asked:

There were 3 different questions presented in front of different users, the questions were:

  • Which email features can help in making the interaction with Google+ easier?
  • How should the Google+ features be integrated with Gmail?
  • In order to have a better email experience, how should the social features be integrated with Gmail?

Survey Methodology:

Striebeck used two different types of methods to get the responses about the questions posed.

  • First, was using the Google+ Hangouts video chat, where Striebeck had a discussion with 50 individuals, in a 15-minute session.
  • The second tool used was, survey forms. Streibeck, offered the participants of Hangouts session, to fill in a survey form in order to participate in the session.

Besides the survey form and Hangouts session, many of the users responded by leaving reply to the questions placed by Striebeck in his note.

User Feedback:

The users gave different suggestions about the Gmail/Google+ integration; a few important of them are discussed below:

1. Gmail on Google+:

A majority of users gave comment about the integration by saying that, though they have Google+ integrated with Gmail, where they can see Google+ notifications on the top right side, but what users want is to have a Gmail notification bar in Google+. As, users are more inclined to have Google+ opened in front of them , rather than having Gmail open all the time.

2. Personal and Private Gmail Account Integration:

Most of the users also requested Streibeck; to have an option of integrating their work based Gmail and personal Gmail account with a single Google+ account. This suggestion is suitable for employees of SEO Services Company, where they would be able to add their business Gmail account with their personal Gmail account, which would tie the contacts of both accounts in the circles.

3. Contacts, Circles, and Contact Groups Ambiguity:

Some of the feedbacks addressed the ambiguity created by the disconnect between the Contact Groups, Contacts, and Circles, and the suggestion they gave was of making a unified list of all Gmail and Google+ contacts.

Reasons for Failure of Google Buzz:

Besides suggestion on integration of Google+ and Gmail, most of the users also showed reservation about the privacy factor, which was not taken care off when Google Buzz was introduced. The two main reasons for the failure of Google Buzz were:

  • The first reason for the failure of Google Buzz was its inability to separate between personal and public content. That is the main reason why Google Buzz faced lawsuits.
  • The other reason for the failure of Google Buzz was its forced integration. The Google Buzz integration was forced by Google, which most of the users don’t want to be the case with Google+ and Gmail integration.

Conclusion:

In a nutshell, the feedback received by Streibeck’s question was a healthy one, and it helped Google to make a better integration of Gmail and Google+. These responses also show that the company cares for user feedback, and the users also care for their experience regarding using Google products.
